About
PIANO MUSIC FOR ALL SEASONS...
FOR ALL REASONS
Piano instruction began at an early age and culminated with lessons with noted Canadian teachers: Darwyn Aitken (piano studies) and Gordon Delamont (Theory, harmony composition, orchestration, counterpoint). I have worked as a professional musician all my life, performing in Europe and North America. My repertoire includes jazz, classical, latin, boogie woogie, blues and ragtime. I also sing in four languages.
Highlights:
- Silver and gold medals at the Peel Music Festival.
- Won Battle OF THE Bands with rock group THE JACKDAWS.
- Travelled North America with showbands THE NITE TRAIN and FRONT PAGE.
- Musical director for award winning television show SMITH AND SMITH.
- Created the annual Bay Area Jazz Society which produced jazz concerts featuring Canadian musicians.
- Produced independent production of my own CD "JAZZ" (original compositons).
- Performs at local jazz festivals.
Reviews:
"Benton plays everything from Mozart to Monk" (MIke Beggs Livewire).
"Benton was at raging form at the piano, striding and strutting around with two-fisted blizzards of note filled solos in contrast to lyric vocals" (Hugh Fraser music critic for Hamilton Spectator).
